The main objective of this project is to generate and apply big earth data for monitoring and assessing selected indicators associated with the SDGs, thus providing implications for the integration and mainstreaming of technology into policy towards the implementation of SDGs in Thailand .
The project involved collecting secondary data from government sources and primary data through field surveys, complemented by Earth observation technologies such as MODIS, HIMAWARI, Landsat-8, and Sentinel-2. Innovative scientific methods were demonstrated in selected areas, while workshops engaged stakeholders to share findings and foster collaboration.
Project Description
This project focused on the assessment of selected Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) indicators under SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 14 (Life Below Water). The objective was to enhance Thailand’s capacity for SDG monitoring and reporting by leveraging Big Earth Data and integrating various data sources for environmental condition assessment. The study combines three types of data: primary data collected through surveys and water quality measurements; secondary data, including environmental, demographic, and public information from government sources; and Earth observation data from satellites such as MODIS, HIMAWARI, Landsat-8, and Sentinel-2 to monitor environmental conditions.
The project successfully integrated data from various sources, including government agencies at local and national levels, field surveys, consultations, and remote sensing technologies, to provide a comprehensive foundation for SDG assessment in Thailand. It developed a collaborative platform that enables accurate, timely, and efficient monitoring of SDG progress, fostering data sharing among stakeholders. The project introduced innovative scientific frameworks and methodologies, leveraging Big Data and Earth observation to evaluate sustainable development effectively. Context-specific SDG indicators including xxxxxx were proposed to align with Thailand’s unique conditions, accompanied by policy recommendations that integrate advanced technologies and data analytics to guide strategies and actions toward achieving the SDGs.
